Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Newborn Care Specialist?

A newborn care specialist is specifically trained to care for babies as soon as they come home from the hospital, instilling good sleeping habits as well as safe sleep practices while educating and
supporting parents.  NCSs work with all types of families including two-parent, single parent by choice, surrogacy, and adoption. We work with singletons, multiples and even preemies.

Do you just come overnight or can you come anytime?

Newborn Care Specialists can work any combination of shifts including 24 hrs, daytime or overnight care and sometimes even travel care.

How long do parents hire you for?

Newborn Care Specialists usually are contracted to work anywhere from a few nights to seven nights a week up to six months.  The average contract usually lasts between eight to twelve weeks and depending on what the parent’s goals are, by the end of those twelve weeks, a skilled newborn care specialist can have an infant sleeping between 10 and 12 hours a night.

Do you sleep while the baby is sleeping?

After the feedings, diaper changes and any bottles and laundry have been washed and put away, a Newborn Care Specialist rooms in with and will rest while the baby is resting.
